In Azië veel gewilde exotische producten in Amerika minder het geval. Regeringen van moederlanden wilden daar ook winst maken door : Goud en zilvermijnen en Plantages worden steeds belangrijker -> hiervoor ware grote gebieden nodig -> koloniën.
Grote ebieden komen in bezit van de Europeanen : Kolonies
Het land dat de kolonie in bezit had, werd het moederland genoemd
Plantagekoloniën : koloniën in dienst van de plantages (landbouw) of die voor een groot deel bestonden uit plantages.
De heersers in India werden vermoord of het land uitgezet daardoor waren de Britten daar de baas
Inheemse bevolking werd ingezet om op deplantages te werken. De inheemse bevolking werd uitgebuit en kwam door Europese ziektes.
Er kwam tekort aan arbeiders.
Oplossing waren slaven uit Afrika te halen.
Slavernij leidt tot driehoekshandel
Amerika naar Europa Hout, koffie, cacao, katoen, Tabak, aardappel, rietsuiker, Goud en zilver.

Het leven als slaaf was zwaar. Slaven kwamen om en werden hard gestraft. Op sommige plantages werden slaven ingezet om toezicht te houden op de andere slaven. Deze bazen werden Basya's genoemd.
Gevolg slechte omstandigheden : Slaven wilden vrij zijn. Ze konden zich vrij kopen met geld.
Vrijheid geschonken te krijgen of ze liepen weg.
Er ontstonden weglopersdorpen Weggelopen slaven worden marrons genoemd.
Afschaffing was 1800 langzaam aan dan.
1888 officieel en overal afgeschaft. Nederland was een van de laatste landen.
