Baltimore is 2-0 after beating Cincinnati on the road (20-0) and Cleveland at home last week (24-10). The Ravens are decimated right now on the interior of the offensive line after losing All-Pro right guard Marshall Yanda to a broken ankle. The Jaguars pounded Houston in the opener (29-7) on the road but reality struck last week with a home loss to Tennessee (37-16). Last year, Baltimore edged Jacksonville, 19-17 on the road. Jacksonville Jaguars -
The Jacksonville Jaguars came out of the gates as one of the hottest teams in the NFL in Week 1 shocking the Houston Texans 29-7 on the road. However, after we all caught our breaths, the Jags returned to being the Jags again in Week 2. They lost to the Tennessee Titans 37-16 and looked like the same old team that we all know and love. Blake Bortles was his usual average self going 20-34 with one touchdown and two picks, while their defense also came back down to earth as well. Following their ridiculous 8-sack effort against Houston, they registered three last week. Which is still pretty substantial, but the competition will be a lot tougher in Week 3 than it was against either of their familiar AFC South foes.
Despite losing Danny Woodhead for at least a month, the Ravens have picked up the pieces pretty quickly. They slotted in Javorious “Buck” Allen and the team has taken off. They destroyed the Bengals 20-0 in Week 1 and dropped Cleveland 24-10 last week. They’re one of the hottest teams in football with 8 interceptions on the year; the most in the NFL.
For the Jags to win this game, they’ve got one hope – Leo Fournette. He’s registered touchdowns in each of his two games so far and will need to stay hot for his team to be relevant at Wembley.

Baltimore Ravens -
The Baltimore Ravens could, should and likely will win this game. Don’t quote us! Every little bit of momentum is swinging in their favor though and they’ve got the tools to back it all up. Joe Flacco is connecting decently with his receivers going 66% for three touchdowns through two weeks. Both Allen and Terrance West are averaging over ten yards per carry and over 50 yards per game.
Their offense isn’t red hot, but they also won’t need to be in this one. It’s their defense that’s won them their games so far. Did we mention the league leading 8-picks? That’s ridiculous, but they’re also second in the league allowing an average of 5.0 Points Per Game and are tenth in the league allowing just 303.5 Yards Per Game.
In other words, the Ravens are sitting pretty in this one.
Jacksonville was awarded an NFL franchise in 1995, when the NFL erroneously concluded their city was a better destination than Baltimore. The Ravens were born the next season and have sold out every game since their inception. The Jaguars have some of the worst attendance totals in the league, prompting their annual ‘home’ game across the Atlantic. Beginning in 1996, these teams squared off twice a year as members of the former AFC Central division. Jacksonville won each of the first eight meetings in the series behind a potent Mark Brunell led offense.
The Ravens turned the tables in 2000 with an epic back-and-forth victory. Former Jags receiver Jimmy Smith caught three touchdowns in the game, including a fortuitous tipped ball 40-yard score with less than two minutes remaining on the clock. But Tony Banks tossed his fifth scoring strike of the afternoon to Shannon Sharpe, giving the Ravens a dramatic last minute win.
This 2000 shootout victory put the young Ravens franchise on the map as legitimate contenders, they would eventually go on to win the Super Bowl that season. Baltimore then began their own winning streak against the Jaguars, beating them six straight times through 2003. The Jaguars snapped the streak with a 30-3 blowout in 2005 after Kyle Boller tossed three interceptions, an indication of what was to come for Brian Billick.
Since John Harbaugh took over as head coach in 2008, the Ravens have won three of five meetings. The first loss was an embarrassing Monday night game where the heavily favored Ravens mustered just one touchdown in 2011. The second included a controversial ending, a boneheaded Elvis Dumervil penalty allowed Jacksonville kick a game winning field goal as time expired in 2015. Week 3 will mark the fourth straight season with a Baltimore - Jacksonville battle, the Jaguars lead the all-time series 11-9.
The teams are basically mirror images of each other this year. Both clubs have devoted a majority of their draft and free agency resources to the defensive side of the ball; resulting in rosters with talented defensive fronts, playmaking linebackers and lockdown cornerback tandems. Their offenses are also similar, both emphasize smash mouth football behind patchwork offensive lines, and have suffered season ending injuries to their top offensive players.
Baltimore’s performances against Jacksonville have been a somewhat of a bellwether for the team. Postseason worthy Ravens squads traditionally defeat the Jags, while teams destined to disappoint often struggle against their former AFC Central competition. On Sunday, both clubs will attempt to impose their will on the match using the same blueprint for success. The Week 3 showdown against Jacksonville presents a true crossroads for the 2017 Ravens.
