The burial was just as emotionally draining as Xavier had expected. Seeing his fathers corpse laid out on the plank of wood, body covered in a thin, white sheet with his head only peering out, he almost looked as if he was sleeping, but when it was his turn to press his three, center fingers against his forehead, the icy wave that rocketed through him was bone chilling. The custom for alphas where always the same- A water burial, the body floated out into the bayou that surrounded the territory while the pack stood in silence at the shore, before filing back inside, everyone dismissed to their private vigils.
It was expected that everyone above the age of 15 stay up until the sun rose, and, though exhausted, he planned on doing just that. That went for Hazel, as well. She'd hate it, no doubt, but as long as she was here, she would follow the traditions, and Xavier would make sure of it.
"Hazel?" After showering, and waiting for the Beta to return to their own room, he had returned to her door, jiggling the brass door handle just to find it locked. "Let me in- I have food." He added the latter hastily, knowing that, after not eating all day, she must be starving. That, and he couldn't imagine being fed well as a rogue in general. Xavier had pointedly set aside a helping of that nights meal for her- A beefy stew, the two ends of a loaf of bread, and a water bottle from the fridge.
