The concept of this project was to produce a 3-dimension tessellation only using the paper. The piece had to interlock, show both negative and positive space, and is active on all sides. When we first started the project, I was struggling to figure out what to do. I tried to make a lantern but it didn’t come out the way I wanted to be. So while I was figuring out what to do, I looked around at my other classmates’ pieces. Then I started to get an inspiration from them. First I started to make a snowflake out of square paper. Then I folded it to make a fortuneteller. I had no idea what I was going to do with them. But I started to make a lot of them. I made about ten of them then I started to tape them together one by one to make a shape out of it. Then I was thinking I should make a circular shape out of it. After I kind of made a circular shape, I realized it was too small. So I took all the pieces off and make a rectangular shape. Then I was stuck again. It was too small. I thought it would be cool to put more fortunetellers on top of the others. So I hot glued few more of them on top. It started to really nice. I was really happy with what I came up with. After it was all in shape, I spray painted the piece with a light shade of pink. It looked like a cherry blossom. The materials that I used for the piece was copy papers, scissor, x-acto knife, hot glue gun, tape, and spray paint. Instead of using boring regular fortunetellers, the cut outs on the fortunetellers made the piece look even better. It showed good positive and negative space on the piece. In my opinion, I thought the piece was a success. I met all the expectations and followed all the rules. I accomplished more than I expected. In the beginning I never would’ve thought I would come up with this piece. I really like how you can turn to any side in my piece and it wouldn’t be flat anywhere. So my piece is in the round. Also, my piece shows a tessellation due to the cut outs on the fortunetellers. The message I was trying to get across to the viewers was that you could make such beautiful pieces with plain computer paper. I learned that while doing the project. So I want other people to see the piece and learn that too. That you can create 3- dimension tessellation with just paper and tape.
