he was so glad to have his friend back, he hadn’t noticed the signs, and hadn’t heeded his other friend’s words.
his joy was short lived.
he should have listened.
now that he was looking back on it, it became clear. all the signs, and he didn’t even question it.
now someone was dead and their homes were destroyed. it was all his fault.
the façade, the mask, the show he put on, was that really all it had been? was their friendship really all just a cheap trick, an illusion he cast to hide his true intentions?
he wanted to believe that’s not all it had been. he wanted to believe that sometime, somewhere, their bond that they held had been real. sometime near the beginning, they had actually been friends.
he wanted to believe he still felt that way, that somewhere inside of him he still cared and didn’t want to just use them.
he wanted to believe that some part of his friend regretted betraying them.
he wanted to believe it, but they were all the just fantasies. he knew he would never feel that way. he wondered what had changed. when did their friendship become just a façade used to hide his true plans?
he wished he could have done something, anything to prevent this.
