1. Menurut Dr. Soedarsono seni tari adalah salah satu cara untuk mengungkapkan ekspresi jiwa manusia melalui gerak tubuh yang indah dan mempunyai irama. Sedangkan menurut Corry Hartong sendiri, tari adalah seni menggerakan tubuh yang terbentuk dari ritme badan di dalam ruang.
2. Unsur utama seni tari adalah : Wiraga (raga/gerakan), wirama (irama/musik pengiring), wirasa (rasa/penghayatan).
3. Unsur pendukung seni tari adalah : Tata rias, kostum, pola lantai, setting panggung dan properti tari.
