Martry's mother dose not resist the bullies and her overprotectivness/paranoia is empahssied through use of similes and a ____ judgement. "she always imagined the worst, expected it." The image/representation of Marty is clearly/shown as the victim. This event is clearly harrowing for Marty and the author is empahssing his pain through the use of similes,"The kid let loose with a scream that could strip paint." In contrast to the antipathy/hate the reader has for Steve, the reader would feel sympathy/sorry and pity/sorrowness for Marty. Despite being subjected to both physical and emotional abuse, he isn't able to stand up and defend himself. Marty gets what his mother is talking about but he doesn't accept her actions. Marty's attitude is whats happining is not his buissness and that he is not capable of stopping the formidable Steve. Similarly, Marty feels like he is unable to come to terms and comunitcate with his mother, and is tired of her confronting/paranoid/overprotective attitude to the injuries and reckless behaviour and how she makes no attempt to agree with him "WHy didn't he do something, anything?" The author use of similes signals to the reader Marty's confusion and, in equal measure, his frusatration that Aaron is the helpless victim. In this scene the pratryel of bullying is conveyed in a realistic manner and is shown in a way a teenage audience can relate.
In conclusion, the author represents the issue of teen bullying successfully. He was able to do this by charachterzation and language features. It show how people in the story experiance with greater detail. These show and makes the reader fell sympathy and pity for the characters like Aaron hwo gets bullied by his older brother. It also makes us fell antipathy/hate for Steve who bullies Aaron. Mounfield demonstrates/shows us the sterotypical bully in the story, abusive and cruel.
