Thank you so much for the answer to my question, it gave me a huge insight as to why I sometimes don’t understand simple things but understand complicated things at least reasonably well. I figured from your answer that I’m certainly a top-down thinker so that’s a huge step up in knowing myself and I’m sure that will help me a lot. The people in my class all think that math is about filling in exercises but the moment they get asked WHY something works they don’t know it, they think much less conceptually / in relation to what we’ve already learned. For example I once asked why you “read cos of an angle on the x-axis and the sine on the y-axis on the unit circle” so a tremendously basic question if you understand what sine an cosine actually are. I actually blame this way more on the school(system) than my classmates, we are just being told that we should do chore work like donkeys. My age is 17 and I live in Belgium. Cheers
