I knew I was wasting your time
couldnt' find the words to tell you what I felt
that it was late & by now you should have slept
as the sun began to move high
we said goodbye

& oddly next to my ear
my phone was so light
thoughwhen it was time to press that end button
it felt like my fingers weighed a ton
but you said something before we were finished & done
on August 31st
with my heart about to burst
part of me wanted to believe you were serious & woke
yet I knew you were half asleep & probably meant it as a joke
but there is no denying
it was so satsifying
it was as if my heart stopped
my mind, in shock
my thought process, completely blocked
even if it was pretend
it felt so good
alot more than i know it probably should
for so long its been all I've wanted to hear
but I have to admit
it wasn't
how I wanted to hear it
regardless of the intent
I longed for it
even if it was just pretend
I wouldnt mind hearing it every moment of every second
even if it wasn't definite
i wouldnt mind hearing it every moment of every minute
& even if it was just horse play
I wouldnt mind hearing it every moment of everyday
it was one time yet it sounds like i got addicted
I even lied to make you repeat it
pretending that i didnt hear it
god knows I did that delibrately
I heard it crystal clear initally
hearing it simultanously added & took a weight off my chest
even if it was just pretend
I confess
it feels like progress
who knows, I'll be completely assured
the next time I hear those words
I'll hear them & know I heard them right
without a shred of doubt
unlike yesterday, late at night
you were tired
your thoughts, scattered
5 am on a thursday morning
about to fall asleep at any given moment
you said those words
you know the 3
one thing you always hate & regret
that you're easily distracted and easily forget
but I'll always remember
that August 31st was the last time I heard you say
I love you for the first time
