Short Answer writing prompt. Social Studies.


Scientists have suggested that Earth (and other planets with a moon or moons) may have once originally had rings like those of the planet Saturn.
That is just one hypothesis that scientists have for the existence of a moon (or moons).
If planet Earth did have rings, then what happened to them? That is the question I am going to answer here today. Some scientists suggest that because debris orbiting near planetary rings with a gravitational pull tend to eventually break off or eventually come together to form moons, that that it is the reason the Earth may not have rings anymore. Because they slowly broke off and formed to become moons. That is, if Earth had rings that orbited the planet at all in the past tense.
Most scientists agree that Earth did not originally have rings that orbited it, but some astronomy scientists do argue that it could be proven possible that the earth did, in fact, have rings like the planet Saturn.
In conclusion, evidence strongly suggests that we did, at one time, have rings that orbited Earth. But they were broken up by Earths gravitational pull, to form moons.
