WW2 started for China in 1931 when they were invaded by Japan. There was a lot of controversy that we were enabling the attacks on China. Roosevelt made it illegal for the oil company's to sell to japan. Japan made the decision to attack pearl harbor so we would make peace as well as resume oil sales. Was the attack a surprise? Yes and no... There was a lot of bad blood between the us and japan at the time. The Nazis never thought they would lose the war so they kept meticulous notes and records. When Hitler came to power they discussed and planned the holocaust in a city named wannsee. During the renaissance they begin to question everything including religious beliefs. just before the renaissance paintings were mainly to advertise religion but after it started they re branded humans as special.
Jan Van Eyck- Painted the marriage of Arnolfini. A private person who paints to represent the peoples newfound outlook of the time. Figures in the painting seem wealthy (nice clothes other nice things) They weren't married yet it was said to be a celebration for the wedding to come. This paining represented his ideal marriage. It was painted in the bedroom because he wants a lot of children. We don't know if she was actually pregnant. His painting is what he wants for his marriage. Dogs have been around in human society for a long time. Dogs are a symbol of loyalty and he uses this to show the loyalty of marriage. Gives himself a "pat on the back" by including himself in the actual painting.
Machiavelli: He believes the end justifies the means. He believes its safer to be feared than to be loved.
He wrote a short book called "The Prince". Prince is referring too not just princes but anyone in power. He also believed you must be ready to do wrong. He believed it was smarter to rue through war. Said you dont have to follow a religion if you don't believe in it.
