Flamingo merupakan sejenis burung yang dapat terbang dan suka bermain dengan air. Ciri-ciri flamingo yaitu memiliki leher dan kaki yang panjang dan paruh yang bengkok ke bawah seperti sendok terbalik. Mereka memiliki suara mirip burung bangau. mereka terbang secara berkelompok sambil membuat formasi saat mencari makanan.
Dengan paruh mirip dengan sekop, flamingo menyundukkan parh ke dalam lumpur untuk menyaring binatang kecil dan tumbuhan untuk makanannya. Jenis flamingo dengan ukuran lebih kecil mencari makan dekat dengan permukaan air dan memiliki sistem penyaring yang lebih luas untuk memilih makanan sedangkan jenis flamingo yang lebih besar mencari makan jauh dari permukaan air dan langsung menelan pasir-pasir yang tertangkap oleh paruhnya. Lidah flamingo berukuran lebih besar dan memiliki fungsi untuk mencegah tertelannya benda berukuran besar.
Flamingo berkembang biak dalam waktu yang cukup lama, umumnya dua sampai tiga tahun. Mereka juga berkembang biak secara berkelompok.
