I will be attending the Fall 2017 New York trip my first semester of my sophomore year. In that, I will attend classes as well as partake in an internship. Some primary learning objectives are to demonstrate proficiency in management and design. I hope to enhance my problem-solving skills in a collaborative setting. In this professional environment, I hope to understand and gain specific skills in production while familiarizing the marketing and public relations environment backstage and on set.
I hope to experience and be part of a collaborative team. To​ ​learn​ ​how​ ​to​ ​really​ ​set​ ​forth great​ ​communication​ ​skills​ ​to​ ​suggest​ ​and​ ​comment​ ​on​ ​those​ ​aspects​ ​in​ ​a​ ​shoot,​ ​where​ ​I​ ​will communicate​ ​the​ ​design​ ​alongside​ ​research​ ​with​ ​my​ ​coworkers. I really want to familiarize and learn the business side of production as well and develop a familiarity with working backstage on a shoot in the professional industry.
My internship is with Capitol Agent Media where I plan to practice my collaborative skills. Capitol Agent Media is a multimedia company/agency that specializes in the high production value of music videos and entertainment related visual projects.
I will serve as a Production assistant holding responsibilities such as managing social media, brainstorm concepts for videos, public relations work, data entry and power point presentations for every upcoming music video or commercial. In order to do all this successfully, I hope to establish an understanding of the company and the technology and tools they use in a professional setting. These collaborative skills are what I will practice in my time at Capitol Agent Media
My performance in the internship will be evaluated by having my internship advisor, Omari, present me feedback and constructive criticism at the end of each project when we have wrap ups. Before each project, I will ask questions about my specific duties and conduct my own self-evaluation (in addition to a conversation with Omari) after the project ends.
By the end of the internship, it will be calculated by a Credit/ No Credit basis as a course #444 at a value of 4 credits. I will check in with my faculty sponsor updating him on current projects and my process in the internship. I hope to meet with him every other Saturday during his office hours 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm. By the end of the internship, Stephen is requiring we prepare an oral presentation about the internship followed by a self-reflection.
As far as my hours, I am working Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to acquire approximately 20-25 hours a week. During the week I might stay longer working around 10 hours a day -- when working on bigger projects -- I may have to work as much as ten hours a day, making me confident that I can get the 180-hour requirement.
