THE YOUNGER LADY ran her tentative fingers in the water inspecting one of the awakening lotuses from the natatorium. All lotuses convey secrets. From its roots firmly in the mud to their flamboyant leaves attached. The leaves are sometimes, and the Lotus flower always, witnesses what we can only dream.
"That woman is a danger." The son heard hushed voices come from behind them. "What she is, is an abomination." The child turned his attention away from the group of women and perched himself on his mother's lap. Before he could say something, his mother spoke.
"My son, take a look at this." She lifted the lotus which spread perfectly on her fingers. His mother spoke in her native tongue. She put it in his cupped hands, with its string of life still attached and watched as its Prussian blue petals rouse from its forty winks. The beautiful and fragrant Lotus flower opens in the morning and the petals fall in the afternoon.
The younger lady tipped the lotus flower downward inside the musty waters, squinting. "When I see you, I am filled with hope. I simply let them do with me as they pleased." The younger lady caressed his ears to his cheeks gently wiping the tears with her thumb. "Live as you see fit Tutankhamun, your fate is guided by your hands alone."
Tutankhamun watched as the lotus flower drowned into the solitude of the waters deception. It was a blossom out of position. The sun seemed too low in the skies. It had felt that some ominous spirit had descended into their palace.
Soon thereafter, on the opposite side of the bank, the large waters were left lapping at his feet without his mother standing beside him.
