I made my academic studies my precedence in the midst of sports and work. To me, knowing how to prioritize and stay focused are of utmost importance to succeeding in life. For example, one of my hardest decisions was between spending time with friends or staying on top of schoolwork. Over time, I came to realize that life is full of making decisions--making the right one was what mattered. Thus, I forced myself to think: which is more urgent? With repeated experience, I learned how to draw a line between the things that were important at the moment with things that could wait for the future. Furthermore, undoubtedly, acquiring the skill to eliminate distractions is the key to success. A million trivial disruptions from simple text messages to social media made me start over whatever I was doing. If I was reading materials for a class, then I had to reread the same passage ten times due to my distractions. Consequently, I learned to let everyone around me know that I was busy, so I could stay focused. Therefore, in Honors College, I believe that I could further hone my ability to become more intelligent and a more conscious person.
