Layla Ishi is a young girl with an inspiring story. Even before she was born, she dealt with many issues. In the womb, she connected to her twin sister. The moment she was born she was rushed into surgery to try and seprate them, and both of them flatlined. Layla managed to be revived though. Throughout her life she's had to go through facial reconstrunction surgeries to make sure she has everything she needs to be a happy kid. Now, on her 7th birthday, with 22 surgeries done, we're here to hear how she feels about this whole situation. Here's the scoop from (I cut out the news source please don't stalk me) Japan.*
In a small hospital in Okinawa, Japan, there is a young girl celebrating her 7th birthday. She has bandages covering most of her face, but that doesn't seem to slow her down. She's just as happy as any other kid. We interviews her earlier today, and here's how she feels.
Interviewer: "so, you just got your 20th surgery last week, correct?"
Layla: "actually 22nd, no big deal"
Interviewer: "okay, how are you doing after that?"
Layla: "the same as usual. In pain, tired, and unable to move my face a lot."
I: "oh... well are you excited it's your birthday?"
L: "very"
I: "did you get anything cool?"
L: "I got a pet fish! I named it Minami, because it means child of the ocean, like me!"
I: "very nice."
L: "when I get to America I'm gonna bring Minami because I love my fishy! And then I'm gonna get more fishies!"
I: "very nice."
(They cut out a clip of me singing a Japanese song about fish. I remember that moment very well.
As you can see, Layla is still very enthusiastic about living, even when so much seems to be hopeless for her. What a charming young girl. Now to the weather.
