I was assigned a trip transporting the Broad Run High School cross country team to Kearnstown. About 45 minutes into the drive, a male student from the back of the bus came forward to talk to the coach and sat down behind the drivers seat. After about 5 minutes or so the coach asked me to pull over because the student wasn't feeling well. I pulled over to the side of the road to let the student off the bus but the coach asked me to continue to a bathroom. When we got to a restroom the student ran off the bus.
At that point, another student told us that the male student had already vomited in the back area of the bus. I went to the back to see what happened. While I was in the back of the bus, the head coach called the coach on my bus to tell him I had the wrong location information for the trip, and we were supposed to be heading to Fredericksburg. I called the other trip driver that was with me and asked him to come back to my location so we could straighten things out. When he arrived at the 7-11 I was at, I got the body fluid mess kit from his bus as well and went back to tend to the mess in the bus. I told the coach that I could not get on the road immediately because the mess had to be cleaned up. I told him if he was willing to do the clean up, or ask one of the other teammates to start the clean up, I could get back on the road. He agreed that we needed to leave immediately as we were already behind and a student volunteered to start the clean up, saying he worked at Lifetime Fitness and had to clean up issues like that regularly.
The student used my hand broom and dust pan and swept up what he could. When we got to the destination I cleaned the area again myself, and hosed the bus out when I returned to the garage later that day.
