RUMPUT LAUT

Rumput laut terbagi ke dalam empat kelompok berdasarkan pigmen yang terkandung di dalamnya, yaitu ;
1. Rhodophyceae (merah)
2. Cyanophyceae (hijau biru)
3. Chlorophyceae (hijau)
4. Phaeophyceae (coklat)
Dari keempat jenis itu, hanya dua yg banyak dimanfaatkan oleh manusia. Ada ganggang merah dan ganggang coklat. Jenis satu dengan yg lainnya agak sulit dibedakan sebenarnya.
Ganggang coklat atau alga coklat biasa digunakan perusahaan farmasi untuk mmbuat pil, salep, dan lain lain.
Sedangkan untuk rumput laut merah merupakan bahan utama agar-agar dan spesies Porphyra digunakan untuk Nori.
Jika rumput laut tumbuh liar, Ia bisa membentuk hutan rumput laut yg bahkan sampai beberapa kilometer luasnya. Dan ini bisa menjadi tempat tinggal yg baik untuk ikan.
Bahkan ada juga yg alergi dengan rumput lau, hal ini disebabkan karena adanya reaksi penolakan dari tubuh terhadap zat tertentu yg dimiliki rumput laut.
Reaksi alergi makanan ini serupa dengan reaksi alergi terhadap makanan lain seperti susu, santan, dll atau disebut juga Reaksi Hipersensitivitas Tipe I.
Contoh hasil olahan rumput laut, terutama jenis ganggang merah. Ada agar-agar dan Nori.
Beberapa kebaikan rumput laut :
1. Kandungan klorofil yg anti kanker, alias antikarsinogenik.
2. Kandungan Vit. C anti oksidan.
3. Kandungan serat yg tinggi baik untuk pencernaan.
4. Kandungan Yodium mampu mencegah penyakit gondok.
5. Kandungan kalsium yg tinggi
