Mantra untuk mengusir dementor. Mantra ini adalah mantra penghasil patronus yang merupakan satu satunya pengusir Dementor. Diambil dari bahasa latin 'expecto' yang artinya menunggu. Dan 'patronus' yang artinya pelindung; yang apabila digabungkan aertinya 'menunggu datangnya pelindung'.
Salah satu mantra yang cukup kompleks. Yaitu dengan menghadirkan memori bahagia sehingga menghasilkan kumpulan asap berbentuk hewan dari ujung tongkat sihir kita. Sebetulnya mantra ini termasuk kedalam pertahanan sihir. Jadi hanya sedikit teori charm di dalamnya.
Bentuk animagus mencerminkan kepribadian yang stabil. Namun bentukan itu juga bergantung kepada mood penyihirnya. Jadi, bentuk patronus bisa berubah ubah tetapi tetap mengambil bentuk hewan.
Seperti contoh saja, patronus Nymphadora Tonks berubah menjadi bentukan serigala karena cintanya pada Remus Lupin, juga Severus Snape yang mengambil bentuk rusa betina karena cintanya pada Lily Evans.
