Bahasa Jerman
Bahasa Jerman adalah anggota bahasa Jermanik Barat yang dipakai sebagai bahasa pengantar terutama di kawasan – Eropa Tengah. Bahasa Jerman adalah salah satu bahasa yang luas dipertuturkan di Eropa dan pernah menjadi bahasa pengantar antarbangsa yang penting sampai awal abad ke-20.Meskipun sekarang menurun kepentingannya, bahasa Jerman masih luas dipelajari karena banyak literatur klasik dunia yang ditulis menggunakan bahasa tersebut. Bahasa Jerman merupakan bahasa resmi dan bahasa kerja di Uni Eropa, seperti Austria, Belgia, Italia(Tyrol Selatan), Jerman, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Swiss.Di Eropa Timur, bahasa Jerman merupakan bahasa asing kedua yang sangat luas dikenal. Beberapa daerah di Eropa Timur, zaman dahulu kala banyak dihuni oleh orang Jerman perantauan.Setelah Perang Dunia II sekitar 12-15 juta jiwa orang Jerman diusir dari Eropa Timur. Di Perancis bahasa ini dipertuturkan oleh sekitar dua juta jiwa penduduk negara ini, khususnya di daerah Alsace-Lorraine. Namun sayang tidak memiliki status bahasa resmi. Di Amerika Serikat, bahasa Jerman dialek Pfalz dipakai oleh orang-orang Amish.Di Patagonia, lebih tepatnya di Selatan Argentina, terdapat pula komunitas berbahasa Jerman.Namibia, sebagai satu-satunya bekas koloni Jerman di Afrika, juga menjadi tempat sisa-sisa komunitas berbahasa Jerman di Afrika.Bahasa Jerman mempunyai 26 fonem yaitu 21 huruf mati dan 5 huruf hidup.
