Severus Snape adalah seorang guru PTIH berdarah half-blood. Ia lahir dari pasangan Tobias Snape yang seorang muggle dan Eileen Prince yang seorang penyihir. Semasa kecil ia sering disiksa oleh ayahnya. Ia berteman dan mencintai Lily Evans dari kecil hingga bersekolah bersama di Hogwarts. Bahkan hingga akhir hayat Lily, Snape-lah yang ada hadir disampingnya. Snape satu angkatan dengan James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin. Sirius dan James bermusuhan dengan Snape. Snape bergabung dengan Pelahap Maut dan mengabdi pada Voldemort. Namun ketika ia melihat Harry memiliki mata yang sama dengan ibunya, Lily, Snape beralih menjadi Pasukan Dumbledore dan menjadi mata-mata Voldemort.
Sejak bersekolah, Snape sangat terobsesi dengan pelajaran ilmu hitam, ia ingin menjadi guru pengajar ilmu hitam, namun kenyataannya ia menjadi Potion's Master dan mengajar dari tahun 1981-1996. Dan akhirnya pada tahun 1996-1997 ia mengajar ilmu hitam di Hogwarts.
Akhirnya, Dumbledore meminta Snape untuk membunuh dirinya, Snape pun menuruti perkataan Dumbledore, dan ia mendapatkan Elder Wand milik Dumbledore. Namun, Voldemort yang menginginkan Elder Wand pun akhirnya membunuh Snape.
