— Asal mula nama Pleiades:
1. Versi pertama, Pleiades berarti “putri-putri Pleione” ➡ ibu para Pleiades ya istri Atlas.
2. Versi kedua, “plein” yang berarti berlayar, berkaitan dengan fungsi Pleiades dlm pelayaran, hal ini disebabkan heliacal rise Pleiades menandakan dimulainya musim pelayaran di Laut Tengah/Laut Mediterania.
