— Orang jawa biasa menyebutnya Lintang Wuluh.
— gugus ini terbentuk kurang dr 100jt tahun lalu & di dominasi oleh bintang biru panas.
— gugus akan bertahan hingga sekitar 250 juta tahun lagi sebelum bercerai-berai karena interaksi gravitasi dengan objek-objek tetangganya.
— Dlm Mitodologi Yunani, Pleiades adalah 7 bersaudara, putri2 atlas, titan yg memanggul bola bumi di punggungnya.
— Nama2 mereka digunakan untuk menamai 7 bintang utama Pleiades ➡ Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno & Alcyone.
— Asal mula nama pleiades ada 2 versi:
1. Versi pertama Pleiades berarti “putri-putri Pleione” ➡ ibu para Pleiades ya istri Atlas.
2. Versi kedua, “plein” yang berarti berlayar. berkaitan dengan fungsi Pleiades dlm pelayaran. ini disebabkan heliacal rise Pleiades menandakan dimulainya musim pelayaran di Laut Tengah/Laut Mediterania.
