After-school activities can help students excel in school. Clubs can help students in many ways such as boosting their creativity skills. There are many after-school activities that a school could have. I think my school should add a chess club, a debate club, and a reading club. I chose these clubs because they are all activities that I like to do.
I think my school should have a chess club because many kids would like to dedicate some time to play chess. There are many students who know how to play chess and many others who may want to learn. Chess is a strategy and thinking game so playing chess or joining the chess club can help a student improve his or her thinking skills. In the club, students could have lessons, then play randomly. When a student starts playing chess, they start developing better creativity or thinking skills. This can lead to students
Second, I think that my school should have a debate club. In a debate club, students would be able to practice speaking and "friendly arguing". It would help kids in the public speaking department, such as speaking during a presentation and making speeches. Also, it would help students be more persuasive in convincing people and writing essays.
Lastly, my school needs a reading club where kids can read for fun. Reading clubs can help schools greatly. Most students in the United States do not like reading. According to Charlotte Alter from Time, "Kids read for fun less and less as they get older, with 45% of 17-year-olds saying they read by choice only once or twice a year." If there was a reading club it would encourage students to read more. If a student already liked reading and reads a lot, the reading club could suggest some advanced and interesting books.
In conclusion, my school could have many clubs such as reading, debate, and chess. All these clubs would help students achieve academic success. There are a lot of clubs that a school could have, way more than the points that I have mentioned earlier. Thus, My school needs some extra clubs for its students.
