NCERT advises the Indian Government on policies and programs for qualitative improvement in school education.
The Indian Government has provided NCERT with A$10 million to provide training to at least 3.2 million school teachers over the next few years. Training modules will be provided through smart phones. Given Curtin’s experience and expertise in delivering high-quality teacher training programs online, Curtin will collaborate with NCERT to operationalise the development and implementation of online training modules for India’s teachers. Curtin also seeks to establish a ‘Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education’ at NCERT for collaborative research and research training as part of the agreement.
This project will address the Indian Government’s aim to increase capacity in home universities. As attracting qualified teachers to rural areas is a common issue in Australia and India, the project may help address this issue by delivering training off-campus, thereby encouraging teachers to stay in their regional home locations.
This is the first agreement between an Indian Government agency and a foreign institution. This is an opportunity to highlight how an Australian university is markedly influencing the development of India’s education system through collaboration.
