Daphne Trunchbull
Youthful six-year-old Daphne Trunchbull is the daughter of Agatha Trunchbull, the former headmistress at Crunchem Hall. Agatha’s striking blue eyes, as well as her chocolate brown locks of hair, were identical to Daphne’s. However, one feature Daphne certainly didn’t have in common with her mom, was her personality and disposition towards others.
Ordinarily, Agatha isolated her daughter. That included rarely speaking to her, and abusing her. The loving motherly figure Daphne wished for in her mom didn’t exist. Nevertheless, that didn’t encourage negative thoughts and Daphne kept her bubbly personality during the whole experience because she soon discovered something truly incredible. Throughout this difficult time period in Daphne’s life, she realized she had a profound enthusiasm for books.
The library was a place Daphne often visited and that’s where she met Matilda. Daphne felt a sense of trust and happiness and Matilda felt the same because they shared a similar back story and an interest in books.
Crunchem Hall was the elementary school Daphne attended. Her mother, Mrs. Trunchbull, was the Principal. Miss Honey’s class was the first-grade class that both Daphne and Matilda were in. After Matilda discovered she had powers both Daphne and Miss Honey were there to help her. After a few pranks on Miss Trunchbull one, in particular, generated the thought to mysteriously disappear. Accordingly, after hearing about Mrs. Trunchbull’s disappearance, Miss Honey then became the permanent guardian of both Matilda & Daphne and their lives changed for the better. Daphne knew if she stuck to her optimistic mind things would get better and they did. Just like in the stories she read.
