1. When we discussed the different types of capital that a person can have, we discussed three different types of capital. However, when we discussed capital whether it was economic, cultural, or social, we thought of it as something that the more you had of the better off you were (of course it would make sense to have the most capital). What if someone who is very rich and has a lot of social capital and cultural capital were to suddenly enter into a place with very different practices? Would his or her economic capital and social capital and cultural be worth the same? Which would vary the most in terms of its worth and which would vary the least?

2. When we were trying to find ways to lessen the inequalities between different races in regards to income, education, and housing segregation, it was often very difficult to find a good solution. While I was trying to think of ways to reduce housing segregation, many of the ideas I had, like drawing lottery tickets for houses or setting a quota for how many people of each race should live in a specific area, I realized many of them were laws/ideas/actions that would be reducing the freedom of people to choose where they wanted to live for themselves. Why is it that oftentimes the ideas that we think would fix some of the inequality issues involve controlling individuals or groups more? Why is it bad to live in a totalitarian type society even if they might be able to figure out how to make there be no inequality? (I feel like the answer to this is because at the end of the day every still has their own culture and values and it seems ridiculous to impose what one person thinks is right even if it may benefit some others)

3. Both sex work and 14 year olds babysitting are technically ways of working in the informal economy. Why is it that one is viewed so negatively while the other is basically dismissed? Does Foucault's idea of discourse and how we talk about different types of work change the way we view them? How does this evaluation of different types of work in the informal economy show what our society's norms and values are?
