SSD installation guide
1. Trim is the way of housekeeping in SSD, which ensures that free blocks are readily available in advance for further write. You can verify that trim is supported with hdparm command:

sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep TRIM
* Data Set Management TRIM supported (limit 1 block)
2. Trim is enabled by default for Intel and Samsung SSDs, which have been well tested and supported. In case your drive supports trim, enable it by appending “–no-model-check” to the fstrim command in the file /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim:

exec fstrim-all --no-model-check
Alternatively:

You can add the TRIM command to /etc/rc.local. Then this command will be executed automatically on system boot. Open /etc/rc.local and add the fstrim command above the line exit 0 for every automatically mounted EXT4 partition (but not for the swap partition, as it's already being trimmed automatically by the system by default, during the boot process).

fstrim /
exit 0
And Disable the superfluous weekly cron job for trim:

sudo mv -v /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim /fstrim
3. Check the kernel parameters for swappiness and VFS cache:

sysctl vm.swappiness
vm.swappiness = 60

sysctl vm.vfs_cache_pressure
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 100
4. The lower (from 100 to 50) value of vfs_cache_pressure configures kernel to retain filesystem metadata (dentry and inode cache), which means even during memory pressure this cache won’t be released. Append the following three lines in /etc/sysctl.conf to fine tune the above parameters. You need to reboot the system to make them effective.

# Custom settings
# disable the swapping, still swap partition is necessary for hibernation
vm.swappiness = 0
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 50
5. Disable the access time logging for the file system. Without the “noatime” flag on your file system every read will cause a write, because the file system will update the access time. Edit the /etc/fstab to add the “noatime” flag, change “errors=remount-ro” to “noatime,errors=remount-ro” for each drive mounted to SSD. Save the file and reboot.

sudo nano /etc/fstab
UUID=86a5fc7a-efb8-41a7-b208-23827fc8fe4f / ext4 noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1
