Platipus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus)
-hewan semi-akuatik
-banyak ditemui di timur Australia
-simbol fauna Australia (terdapat di koin 20 sen Australia)
-hewan ovovivipar (organ reproduksi mirip burung)
-dulu ada di Argentina dan wilayah Amerika Selatan (ditemukan fosil mereka di kawasan tersebut), namun mengalami kepunahan.
-makanan : cacing, larva serangga, yabbie
Fisik :
-temperatur tubuh ±32°C (lebih rendah dari mamalia kebanyakan yang suhunya ±38°C)
-berparuh seperti bebek (sebagai organ sensor) dan berkaki selaput
-beratnya <1 kg - >2 kg, panjang tubuh ± 30-40 cm, panjang ekornya 10-15 cm (jantan) dan 8-13 cm (betina). Jantan lebih besar 3x lipat dari betina
-hewan berbisa, bisanya digunakan dalam perebutan wilayah/pertempuran antar teman
Tahap reproduksi :
-Tahap 1 : embrio tidak memiliki satupun organ fungsional dan bergantunh pada kantung merah telur.
-Tahap 2 : jari-jari mulai muncul
-Tahap 3 : gigi muncul.
-Telur menetas sesuai periode inkubasi (sekitar 10 hari).
-bayi platipus tidak berambut. Lahir dengan keadaan buta dan peka.
-bayi platipus meninggalkan sarangnya setelah usia 17 minggu (±4 bulan lewat)
