Have you ever heard a song that felt deeply connected to your life? Like every line and every lyric was talking directly to you. My name is Darcy Muir, and my favorite song is "Ascension" by Mac Miller. I first discovered the song in 2024, a year when I was going through a lot of personal troubles. When I first heard the song, I really resonated with the sound and the melody of the song; it felt sad but hopeful, almost melancholy, similar to how my life felt at the time. There are many lyrics in the song that I feel really speak to me, but my all-time favorite is one of the simpler lyrics, "Ascension, a brand new me". That lyric spoke to me very deeply as I was in a place in my life where I wasn't happy with who I was or the person I was becoming, and it gave me hope and inspiration to take control of my life and change what I wasn't happy with. Another lyric that is very meaningful to me is "Lord, give me a religion to follow," as at the time of discovering the song, I had been struggling with my religion, something I've struggled with for a long time. I loved the song then, as it made me feel less alone in how I felt and gave me hope to keep going. Now that I listen to the song two years later, it still hits me just as deeply as it did when I listened to it years ago, but the meaning has changed slightly for me now. To me, the song "Ascension" by Mac Miller was a symbol of hope in my life, something that inspired positive change.
