GASTRONOMIA
Los supermercados de Mata Utu no ofrecen productos frescos. Aunque hay algo de ganado porcino y alguna explotación avícola, la mayor parte de la carne llega por avión una vez a la semana, y dadas las dificultades de suministro no podemos esperar comer nada excepcional. La dieta se basa sobre todo en las frutas tropicales, el cerdo y el pollo.

La gente de Wallis y Futuna son principalmente polinesios y hablan tongano o samoano y algo de francés. Será difícil entenderse en inglés, así que aprende un poco de francés nos facilitará bastante las cosas.
Los wallisianos descienden de tonganos, mientras que los futunianos desciende de samoanos, con lo cual las diferencias entre unos y otros tanto en el idioma como en la cultura son fácilmente perceptibles.
