Emergency Alarm Systems for Elderly;
Medical alert systems provide seniors with peace of mind in their own home while having an easy way to contact help quickly in case of falls or other accidents. A device allows seniors to activate the alarm with just the touch of a button, sending signals directly to a monitoring center or predefined contacts if an incident arises. Furthermore, some systems include GPS capabilities which help find their location so help can arrive swiftly should an incident arise.
Medical alarms Many elderly individuals face numerous risks that could put them at risk of accidents, such as falls, illness, loss of balance and impaired vision or hearing. It's estimated that 36 million seniors fall every year - an event responsible for both morbidity and mortality among seniors [1]. A senior safety alarm provides peace of mind knowing help is always close by.
Although many may see medical alert systems as only suitable for frail elderly individuals, they can also be beneficial to people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, as well as chronic illnesses like heart disease. Studies have demonstrated that individuals using PERS are twice more likely to visit emergency departments compared with those without one; it can help alleviate caregiver burden and enhance quality of life overall.
Medical alert systems come in both home-based and mobile models, making them an invaluable resource for maintaining independence while living alone in their own homes. Some systems feature pendants that can be worn around the neck while others come equipped with wristwatches or pocket pendants that can call for help on-the-go or during car accidents.
At our testing facility, we found that the unmonitored LogicMark Guardian Alert 911 system offers quick response times with its base unit that plugs directly into a traditional phone jack, although only supporting home landlines; no cellular connectivity support exists at this time. Furthermore, 24-7 support through its Taking Care Team speaks directly with alarm users via base station or mobile app in order to assess what has transpired and then contact family, friends, neighbors, or emergency services as necessary.
We tested the GE ConnectedLife Activ8+ system, another unmonitored option with traditional phone lines that relies on large pendants and lasts up to three years on its battery. Recharging via power adaptor is simple; however, this device may not be appropriate for seniors traveling. Overall we found the Activ8+ very user-friendly; connecting with an agent within 10 seconds using Lively Mobile2 phones and 15 seconds when we used both Jitterbug phones simultaneously.
