Platipus adalah hewan semi-akuatik yang banyak ditemui di bagian timur benua Australia. Walaupun Platipus bertelur tapi ia tergolong ke dalam kelas Mammalia karena ia menyusui anaknya.platipus dulu terdapat di Argentina,terbukti karena ada fosil platipus didaerah tsb,ttp platipus sekarang sudah pindah di kawasan itu dan beberapa kawasan tertentulokasi platipus sekarang banyak dapat ditemui di daerah : Tasmania,victoria, new South Wales,queensland
ciri2 platipus :
1. suhu normal 32°C (lebih rendah dari hewan mamalia biasa *re: 38°C)
2. bulu coklatnya membuat tubuhnya tetap hangat
3. kakinya berselaput dan memiliki paruh spt bebek
4. paruhnya digunakan sbg organ sensor
5. beratnya dibawah 1 sampai dgn lebih dari 2kg
6. panjang tubuh 30-40cm
7. panjang ekornya lbh 10-15cm (jangan) 8-13 cm (betina)
8. termasuk hewan berbisa
Platipus memakan cacing, larva serangga, dan yabbieyang digalinya atau ia tangkap pada saat berenang."
platipus adalah hewan ovipar,mereka bertelur (biasanya 1 atau 3telur) ttp juga menyusui organ reproduksi platipus mirip burung (aves). platipus betina memiliki ovarium kanan dan kiri,dimana yg kanan tidak tumbuh sempurna (spt burung)
tahap pembuatan telur/anak platipus:
1. embrio tdk memiliki satu pun organ fungsional dan bergantung pada kantung merah telur untuk pernapasan
2. jari2 kaki mulai muncul
3. gigi muncul
4. telur menetas sesuai inkubasi yg berlangsung sekitar 10hari,setelah telur menetas,keluarlah bayi platipus tdk berambut yg lgsg melekat pd induknya. sang Induk kemudian akan menyusui anaknya yg buta dan peka. bayi platipus akan meninggalkan sarang setelah berusia 17 minggu (krg lbh 4bln lewat)
