Friend, please: There is no doubt what this song is about but I might as well share my thinking. "I feel for you, but when did you believe you were alone?" This means both of two things. 1, Tyler is there for the person suffering with depression and suicide but the person feels lonely which usually happens with people who are depressed, they feel like no matter who is there for them they are alone. 2, It also could mean that Tyler can feel the person meaning he knows what the person is going through because he was once their at one point. "You say that spiders crawled inside and made themselves a home, where light once was." The person used to be a bright, young, happy soul but now they are covered by spiders. Spiders represent the dark (depression, anxiety, self harm, suicide thoughts, etc.) thoughts and fears. Which when you think about the word play is really smart since most people are scared of spiders and think they're bad so he said they crawled inside of you, your fears are eating at you. "Petrified of who you are and who you have become, you will hide from everyone, denying you need someone to exterminate your bones." When you are deep in depression you know you need help and think this is bad but you feel like no matter what you just can't change. You are too depressed to help yourself but too scared and don't feel like it's worth it to have other people help you. He says bones because that is deep inside of you, someone wants to get deep inside of your thoughts and exterminate the bad ones but you don't let them. "Friend, please remove your hands from over your eyes for me, I know you want to leave, but friend, please don't take your life away from me." To me the first part means two things. 1, that the friend needs to see that people are there for them and needs to stop shutting people but covering their hands over their eyes. 2, Getting lost in depression is like covering your eyes, you see darkness instead of light and people around you. The spiders are causing you to cover your eyes. The last part is basically him saying he knows the friend is ready to commit but doesn't want them to, doesn't want them to take their live away from him. "Living like a ghost, you walk by everyone you know, you say that you are fine." You think that no one cares about you, no one notices you, and no one understands how you really feel. Therefore isolating yourself and bottling up all your emotions/thoughts because in a sense you feel as if there’s no point in explaining how you feel if no one is even there for you/cares or understands you so you say you're fine. A ghost is also spooky/dark which could also mean the friend is living like a ghost, being deep in depression and soulless. "Would you let me know your plans tonight? Cause I just won't let go 'til we both see light, and I have nothing else left to say, but I will listen to you all day, yes, I will." Tyler wants to make sure what the friend is going to do tonight because he doesn't want the friend to leave or cut themself. He won't stop trying to help or communicate with the friend at night since nighttime is the time where you are most vulnerable to cut or think badly. When they see light that means that Tyler has helped them survive another day. Tyler has nothing else left to say, he has been trying to help the friend and encourage them to not do or think badly but has since ran out of things to say or repeat but he will still listen to them all day, meaning, once the friend has let them in instead of denying they don't need help they usually open up and tell you everything and you will try to help. It also could mean the friend barely says anything about themselves but Tyler will listen to them no matter what. Basically this song is about a friend of Tyler's who is ready to leave this world but Tyler is trying to help them survive day after day knowing how it is to be in that stage of depression but no matter what the spiders in the friend's head is influencing them.
