An adult autism diagnosis involves comprehensive assessments, including interviews, observations, and standardised tests. These services are designed to evaluate social communication, behaviour, and other factors to provide a thorough understanding of an individual’s neurodevelopmental profile. Educational institutions in Cardiff are equipped to offer specialised support for students and young adults with autism, ensuring they have equal opportunities to succeed. These support services often involve personalised lesson plans, access to assistive technologies, or additional time for exams and assignments. With a professional autism diagnosis, young adults with autism can access these educational and vocational opportunities with ease and improve their chances of educational success.
They have also published e-books on embracing and communicating your strengths, which you might find useful to work through. We are committed to improving the experience of and increasing opportunities for neurodivergent people, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis or not. The term itself was developed as part of a movement to shift the thinking from deficit medical model of autism, ADHD, for example, towards a social construct that focuses on what people can do with the correct understanding, access and values. We use specialist tools to assess for ADHD and autism, gathering information from parents, schools, and clinical observations.
“This year, in the most difficult of financial circumstances, we increased funding for frontline NHS services by more than 4% compared to less than 1% in England. Children living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are having to wait nearly three and a half years to access a much-heralded neurodevelopmental programme, a Freedom of Information Act disclosure has revealed. You can also join a group to meet other parents and carers in a similar position.
With Children in Mind Cardiff, families gain not just professional support but also guidance, strategies, and confidence to help their children thrive in every aspect of life. We provide a safe, supportive space for young people exploring gender identity or experiencing discomfort with their assigned gender. Our assessments consider emotional and social impact and recommend next steps in care. Some children and young people struggle after experiencing or witnessing something traumatic, such as accidents, loss, or bullying. Our psychiatric assessments can identify trauma-related difficulties and guide families toward the right therapeutic support.
This understanding helped with our user research interviews as we were able to check with participants whether our understanding was an accurate reflection of the existing service. We also gathered evidence about the value of pursuing digital solutions to address and support these problems. Through desktop research we learned that in England, for example, they are using digital solutions Occupational Health Advisor in this area and our research explore pros and cons for this solution. At Children in Mind, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, expert care for young people and their families. Being neurodivergent means having a neurobiology that differs from the predominant neurotype.
The Welsh Government Autism Strategic Action Plan, Integrated Autism Service (IAS), the Autism Code of Practice, along with charity organisations, are shaping the autism narrative in Cardiff. These are a step in the right direction and will help foster greater inclusion for those with autism. I hope to continue this forward progress by lending my 20+ years of clinical expertise and professional services by offering private autism assessments in Cardiff. I’m Anne Marie Gallagher, a Speech and Language Therapist with a BSc, and a member of both RCSLT and ASILTIP. Based in the UK, I’ve spent over 25 years conducting professional adult autism assessments in Cardiff, including clinical interventions for autistic adults with the NHS. The team of appropriately trained clinicians, all experts in diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder in adults, will complete an online neurodiversity assessment.
EAA assessments for students aged 16 and above who are intending to apply for adjustments during examinations. CASS helps clients to understand that the Neurodiversity Paradigm is an essential form of human diversity subject to the same social dynamics as other forms of diversity. The idea that there is one “normal” type of brain or style of neurocognitive functioning has no more value than the idea that there is one “right” culture, gender, race or sexuality. Yes, all listed professionals are independently verified for credentials and neuro-affirmative practice.
For students who don't have an EHCP, a Form 8 is used to document any learning difficulties and is used to apply for access arrangements, whether it be for additional support or extra allowances, that will help a student during their education. You can share your neurodiversity report and support plan with your education provider or employer as evidence, to help either secure a diagnosis or put in place additional support. Our neurodiversity assessment is not a medical diagnosis but it gives you your first roadmap, signposting you to any neurodiversity traits you may have and helping you to determine which diagnosis to pursue if needed. Our assessments are also accepted as justification for support funding grants that are available such as the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) and EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan). Following the event, the next steps will involve mapping the existing support and resources available for neurodivergent individuals within Cardiff, which will pave the way for the development of a city-wide strategy.
Most systems for healthcare, learning, and employment have been set up by neurotypical people, meaning neurodivergent people often face inequalities in many areas of life navigating systems not designed for their neurodivergent differences. Based in Scotland, but supporting clients across the UK, we are a dedicated team of specialist clinicians and business experts, committed to providing comprehensive, online assessments and support for both personal and professional needs. At Children in Mind Cardiff, we provide specialist assessments and support for children and young people, helping families understand and navigate emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs with confidence and clarity. The assessment involves a comprehensive diagnostic interview alongside questionnaires and additional information gathering where appropriate, such as school, workplace, or family input.

A telephone consultation is scheduled to provide feedback on the evaluation of the early developmental questionnaire and to determine whether there is adequate information to support the diagnostic process. When evaluated, this questionnaire is highly dependable in revealing childhood information that will support the diagnostic process. We meet with X's class teacher, the school SENCO and X's teacher from the visual impairment team tomorrow to agree a plan of support for X going in to year 6. Everyone I have forwarded your report on to has commented on the high standard and clarity of your work. Myself and his class teacher thought you had really captured the essence of X and answered some questions we have been struggling to answer for a long time, so thank you very much. Since November 2019, a small number of people (3-4) had been meeting in Costa following the forum (although the offer had been for everyone from a confident attendee).
