Fall Away #2: We all know Tyler didn't want to play basketball and had a different desire. This could be a song about him battling with his feelings, what he wants and what people around him wants. "I will lie and I will take my precious time" could be suggesting that Tyler has to lie to himself and people around him about liking basketball (as in doing it as a career) and is wasting his precious time with something he doesn't feel is worth while or what he wants to do with his life. This also links with the line "I'll try to delay what you make of my life" where he suggests that he knows what people are saying and letting them say it but in the end feels like he doesn't want you to determine his life. Again to add to this point the line "I don't want your way, I want mine" saying he has other plans perhaps music and songwriting. When Tyler refers to his love for the other ambition (music) as a "selfish ambition" he thinks firstly that he shouldn't be doing it as it is for his self and won't think it would help anyone to just have another artist out there and also doesn't think it will help his family or be accepted by them. "Repentance is taking commission it's taking a toll on my soul I'm screaming submission and, I Don't know if I am dying or living" Could mean now that he is wondering if basketball really is the thing he wants to but just doesn't feel about it in the moment, but he doesn't know if when he is older (exaggerated) he would feel like dying then doing something he doesn't want, doesn't know if he is dying or living. The chorus could mean he doesn't want to fall away as in being forgotten because he doesn't want to play basketball and being somewhat shunned (what he is afraid of happening) or being poor since in music you can either be really wealthy or broke. He'll keep the lights on meaning he will keep doing basketball because he doesn't want to fall away. "And I, I can feel the pull begin, I feel my conscience wearing thin And my skin It will start to break up and fall apart" This is the part he has had enough doing something he really doesn't enjoy or want to do in the future but he is afraid to tell people.
