Lainder Eganis was alone after his parents were murdered by a group of humans who harbored a hate of Drow Elves. He managed to barely survive on the streets but when the "street rats" of the city started getting kidnapped, He was one of the many taken. He was taken to their camp and thrown into chains next to other children that had been taken. He lost count of the days as they passed, but then one night he woke to the sound of screaming and the smell of ash.
He looked around and saw that what had once been a somewhat makeshift camp had been turned into a war-zone. The Slavers that had held them captive were fighting an all out war against a tide of leather clad shapes, and it wasn't clear which side was winning. Lainder didn't know who would win, but he did know that if he tried to escape he would most likely be seen and struck through with an Arrow. Deciding that he liked to live, he pretended to be dead so that whatever the outcome, when the winning side checked the fatalities, he might be thrown in with the other corpses. He soon fell asleep covered in the blood of the bodies next to him and the smell of death.
When he next woke, the fighting had stopped and he could hear footsteps searching the bodies of the victims surrounding him. As they came closer he held his breath, hoping to be overlooked, but it was not to be. When he thought the footsteps were occupied, he let out a quick breath, but as quiet as he was trying to be, he still heard the footsteps start and within moments he was pulled up by the source of the footsteps; One of the leather clad figures he had caught a glimpse of was standing over him.
The man who discovered him brought him over to a group of similarly leather clad people and after a hushed discussion was held, an explanation and offer were given to him. The group of slavers that had captured him and the others were former members of the thieves guild, Nocturne Mark. Deciding to break the guilds rules against slave trading and strike off on their own, they alerted the High Council to the location of Nocturne Mark's various hideouts and safe-houses and fled in the confusion that followed. After Nocturne Mark reorganized themselves, albeit with less power than they previously held, they began searching for the location of the Betraying Slavers.
Once they had found the location of the camp, they gathered their forces and struck. Most of the captives had either fled or been killed. Those that they had found were all offered the same choice; Go off on their own and say nothing of what transpired, or join the Nocturne Mark and be taught the skills and ways of the guilds trade.
Lainder, having no other family to go to, took the second option. He was taken in as family, even moreso as the guild ignored His Drow Elf ancestry and treated him instead just like everyone else in the guild. Lainder spent years in the guild and trained under the man who found him, as an Assassin. When Lainder grew skilled enough to hold his own, his training under the guild masters ended and it was decided that he would begin the next step of his training by being released into the real world to gain experience. Now on his own, his story truly begins..
