By expeirience I know the connection between Islamophobia->Progressive Muslim->Murthad.
Nowadays, The first step of becoming a Murthad is calling yourself a "Progressive" Muslim or "Thinking" Muslim.
Being exposed to unmanageable Islamophobia forces a Muslim to become a Progressive Muslim. The actually motive behind Islamophobia is to make that Muslim a Murthad, this is just the first step of it.
1. Kids who grow-up in Islamophobic environments fall into believe that Islam is a pretty old ideology that needs to be progressed. From where to where this change is needed is not something falls under an average late-teenager's wisdom. Even though this Islamophobia's argument has no rationale behind it, kids fall to it. Because they are kids.
Now there are different levels to this, as I have expeirience by myself.
2. Lack of social courage and mental fitness to defend the thought that we believe in.
