Basilica Di San Marco is one of the most well known churches in Venice. The church has a Greek design used to symbolize the cross. The building is made of five domes one in the middle and four surrounding it, one of each side, to form a cross. The church is used to house artwork from several time periods. The floor at the entrance is made from marble, symbolizing the 11th & 12th centuries. Later, there are large geometric patterns, made on the marble floors.

Piazza San Marco is the center of the city and, if they mean to or not, tourists will surely come here at some point. Originally, San Marco was just a courtyard for a small chapel, which is now the Basilica. Later the canal was filled with water and the square was paved to look like it did before. The square was used by traders and market men, and was where regular trade held place. Now there are three flags that fly above the square, one of them being the flag of Italy.

Palazzo Ducale might be the most important architectural monument in Venice. The original building was built in the 14-15th centuries, with other structures added on later. Palazzo Ducale translates to Doge's Palace. The oldest part of the "gothic structure" is the wing that faces out to the St. Mark’s Basin.

Saint Mark's Bell Tower was originally built for much more. In the 9th century, it was constructed as a lighthouse, and later used as a watch tower. Now (after some structural changes in the 12-14th centuries) it is part of the Basilica Di San Marco and faces out to the Piazza San Marco square. After earthquake damage, it was rebuilt by Giorgio Spavento and Bartolome Bo in 1513.
