Ingredientes esenciales para fabricar fragancias únicas
perfume trend for Creating Unique Fragrances
When you start creating homemade perfumes, one of the most frequently asked questions is: What ingredients do I need to make a fragrance? The good news is that you don't need many, but it's important to know the basics well and understand how to combine them. In this article, I explain, clearly and simply, the essential ingredients for creating a unique and long-lasting fragrance.

1. Essential Oils: The Soul of Perfume
Essential oils are the aromatic base of natural perfumes. They come from flowers, fruits, leaves, woods, and spices, and provide the main character of each fragrance.

They are divided into three types based on their evaporation:

Top notes: These are the first notes perceived, fresh and light. Examples:

Lemon

Orange

Mint

Bergamot

Heart notes: They give body and personality to the perfume. Examples:

Lavender

Rose

Jasmine

Geranium

Base notes: These are the deepest and longest-lasting notes. Examples:

Vanilla

Sandalwood

Patchouli

Frankincense

Tip: To start, choose 3 to 5 essential oils. This is enough to create pleasant combinations without complicating things.

2. Ethyl alcohol: the solvent
Alcohol acts as a vehicle for the perfume. It dissolves the essential oils and helps the scent disperse easily when applied to the skin.

You should use 95% ethyl alcohol, which you can find at pharmacies or specialty stores. Avoid household alcohol, as it may contain additives and unwanted odors.

Recommended ratio for beginners:

20% essential oils

80% alcohol

3. Distilled water (optional)
If you want to soften your perfume, you can add a little distilled water. It also works for lighter perfumes or body mists.

Important: Use only distilled or purified water, never tap water, as it can alter the scent and reduce the perfume's longevity.

4. Vegetable Glycerin (optional)
Glycerin is a natural ingredient used in small amounts to lock in the scent of perfume and make it softer upon application.

One or two drops per bottle is usually enough. It also provides a more pleasant texture, especially if the perfume comes into contact with the skin.

5. Glass Bottles (preferably dark)
Homemade perfumes should be stored in glass bottles, as plastic can alter the scent over time. Dark bottles (amber, blue, or black) help protect the mixture from light and prolong its lifespan.

You will need at least:

A cooling bottle (for mixing and steeping)

A spray bottle for daily use

6. Basic Tools
You can't measure by eye. To work well, it's helpful to have:

Eyedroppers or pipettes to accurately measure drops

Small funnels to pour liquids without spilling

Labels and a notepad to write down your formulas

7. Your creativity (the secret ingredient)
Beyond the technical aspects, what truly makes a fragrance unique is your sense of smell, intuition, and personality. There are no absolute rules. You can experiment, combine scents, and find your own style. Just keep a record of what you did with each blend.

Conclusion
Creating a homemade perfume starts with a few, but well-chosen ingredients: essential oils, alcohol, water, and a few basic ingredients. From there, it's all about testing, writing down, and enjoying the process. The more you know about the ingredients, the easier it will be to create unique and personal combinations.
