5. Estimate the number of hairs on your head.
If the average head is 10 inches in height and 6 inches in length and 5 inches in width, the area of the head is 300. if hair only covers half of your head. 150 square inches would be covered with hair. How many pieces of hair can fit into one square inch? if half a square inch is about 50 hairs One square inch is about 100 hairs 110 x 150 is 15,000 hairs on your head.
6. Square inches of pizza consumed by all students in the past year? I eat pizza at least once a week. If there are 1,700 students in school that eat pizza one time a week, 52 weeks in a year, we eat pizza 52 times a year each. 88400 pieces of pizza a year. If a pizza is 5 inches wide and 8 inches tall, the pizza will have 40 square inches. 40 sq in. times 88400 pizzas is 3,536,000 square inches of pizza consumed by students in a year.
7. How many gallons of gas do cars use each year in the us? if there are 321 million people in the united states and 1/2 of them drive cars, 160,500,000 people drive cars in the us. If the average person uses 13 gallons to fill up a car and they fill up every two weeks 52 weeks per year divided by 2 is 26 weeks refills. That 336 gallons per year each person. With 160500000 people that is 54,289,000 gallons of gas each year in the US.
8. How many hot dogs are eaten at major league baseball games during a season? If a season is five months, and each game has 50,000 people, each person may eat one hot dog per game. How many games in a season? If they play once a week, 52 weeks in a year divided by 2 is 6 months (26 weeks) minus 4 weeks ( one month ) is 22 weeks . 22 games a season and 50,000 hot dogs per game. That’s 1,100,000 hot dogs eaten in one season.
9. How many minutes will us high school students take texting during the next year? If each school has about 15000 students and there are 2,000 schools in Georgia 2,000 times 50 states is 100,000 schools in the us. 100,000 schools times 15000 students is 1.5 million kids. If the average teen spends 2 hours a day texting that’s 120 minutes a day times 365 days that’s 43,800 minutes a year. 1.5 million times 43,800 minutes is 65 billion minutes texting in the next year.
10. How many revolutions will a wheel make during a trip from Cartersville to Chattanooga? If Chattanooga is two hours away and you drive 70 mph you will drive 140 miles. If In one mile a wheel will turn 1,000 times, 140 x 1000 = 140000 revolutions in 140 miles.
