Is FileViewPro Safe For Opening FMC Files?
An FMC file is a file that can have different meanings depending on the software or system that created it, but one of the most common uses is as a FormConnect Form File. In this case, the file is associated with FormConnect, a mobile form and database app commonly used on iPads for collecting business information in digital form. Instead of using printed forms, a company can create checklists, surveys, job reports, inspections, customer intake forms, health forms, delivery confirmations, or maintenance logs inside the app. When those forms are saved, exported, transferred, or backed up, they may be stored as .FMC files.

As a FormConnect-related file, an FMC file may contain the structure of a digital form, including the form title, sections, labels, input fields, checkboxes, dropdown menus, date fields, photo fields, and signature areas. Depending on how the file was exported, it may also include the actual information entered by the user, such as names, comments, inspection details, dates, answers, notes, and signatures. This makes the FMC file more like a specialized form package rather than a normal document. It is not the same as a PDF, Word document, or spreadsheet, because it is usually designed to be opened, imported, restored, or reused inside the software that created it.

The .FMC extension is simply the label at the end of the filename, such as `inspection-form.fmc`. This extension helps the computer identify the type of file and decide which program may be able to open it. However, `.FMC` is not a general-purpose file format like `.docx`, `.pdf`, `.jpg`, or `.xlsx`, which are supported by many common programs. If Windows, macOS, or another system does not recognize an FMC file, it does not automatically mean the file is damaged. It may simply mean that the correct program, such as FormConnect or another compatible application, is not installed.

There are also FMC file reader of FMC. In technical or industrial settings, FMC can refer to Full Matrix Capture, which is used in ultrasonic non-destructive testing. This type of FMC file may contain raw ultrasonic inspection data collected from phased-array testing equipment. In that process, ultrasonic probe elements send and receive sound waves through materials to detect hidden cracks, weld defects, corrosion, voids, or internal flaws without cutting or damaging the object being inspected. The raw FMC data is often processed using imaging methods such as Total Focusing Method, or TFM, to create a clearer image of what is happening inside the material. This kind of FMC file is highly specialized and would normally require ultrasonic testing or engineering software from the equipment manufacturer.

Because the `.FMC` extension can be used in more than one way, the best way to open an FMC file is to first identify where it came from. If it came from a business form app, field inspection system, survey tool, checklist, or mobile data collection workflow, it is most likely a FormConnect form file and should be opened or imported using FormConnect or a related application. If it came from an engineering, welding inspection, ultrasonic testing, or NDT system, it may be Full Matrix Capture data and will require specialized inspection software. Regular programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Notepad, or Adobe Reader usually cannot open FMC files properly because they do not understand the internal format.

If double-clicking the file does not work, you can try opening the correct software first and then using an option such as Import, Open, Restore, Load File, or Open In. On Windows, you may also right-click the file and choose Open with, but this will only work if the correct program is already installed. On an iPad or Mac, the file may need to be opened through the app’s share or import feature. It is also important not to rename the file from `.fmc` to `.pdf`, `.docx`, `.xls`, or `.txt`, because changing the extension does not convert the file. It only changes the filename label, while the actual data inside remains in the original FMC format.

In simple terms, an FMC file is usually a specialized file that belongs to a specific program or system. It may be a digital form file used for mobile data collection, or in more technical cases, it may be raw ultrasonic inspection data. The safest approach is to keep a backup copy, find out what software created the file, and open it using that same software or a compatible program.
