The Mystery of the Missing Lunch Box
“Don’t worry,” Mrs. Lina said kindly. “We will help you find it.”
After lunch, the students began searching again. Adam noticed a few crumbs near the classroom window.
“That’s strange,” he said. “It was Monday morning at Green Valley School. The hallways were noisy as children hurried to their classrooms. Sara carried her blue school bag and waved at her best friend, Adam.
“Did you finish the science project?” Adam asked.
“Yes,” Sara replied proudly. “I even added pictures of the planets.”
Their teacher, Mrs. Lina, smiled as the students entered the classroom. “Good morning, everyone! Today will be a busy day, so please stay organized.”
The morning lessons went quickly. The students read a story, solved math problems, and worked on their science projects. By lunchtime, everyone was hungry.
Sara opened her school bag to take out her lunch box, but suddenly her smile disappeared. “My lunch box is missing!” she cried.
The class became quiet.
“What does it look like?” asked Mrs. Lina.
“It’s red with little white stars on the lid,” Sara explained nervously.
Adam looked under the desks while a few students checked the shelves near the classroom door. But the lunch box was nowhere to be found.
Sara felt upset. Her mother had packed her favorite cheese sandwiches and apple slices that morning. Who was sitting here earlier?”
“I was,” replied Omar. “But I didn’t see the lunch box.”
Just then, Mia pointed toward the playground.
“Look!” she shouted.
Near the school garden, a small grey cat was hiding under a bench. Beside it was a red lunch box with white stars.
“The cat took it!” laughed Adam.
The students carefully walked closer. The hungry cat sniffed the air and meowed softly. Sara slowly opened the lunch box. One sandwich was missing, but the apple slices were still inside.
The children could not stop laughing.
“It must have smelled the food,” said Mrs. Lina.
Sara felt sorry for the cat. “Maybe it was very hungry,” she said.
Mrs. Lina brought a small bowl of water from the teachers’ room, and Omar shared a little piece of bread with the cat.
Soon, the shy animal began wagging its tail happily.
“We should give it a name,” Mia suggested.
“How about Shadow?” asked Adam, because the cat was grey and quiet like a shadow. Everyone agreed.
From that day on, Shadow visited the school garden every morning. The students took turns bringing water for the cat and making sure it had food.
Mrs. Lina also taught the class an important lesson about caring for animals.
“Pets and stray animals need kindness, food, and safety,” she explained. “Even small acts of care can make a big difference.”
The students decided to create a “Kindness Club” at school. They made colourful posters about helping animals and keeping the playground clean.
Sara drew a picture of Shadow sleeping under the garden bench. Adam wrote a slogan that said:
“Kindness makes the world brighter.”
A week later, the school principal visited their classroom. She was impressed by the students’ teamwork and kindness.
“You should all feel proud,” she said with a smile.
At the end of the day, Shadow sat near the school gate as the children walked home. Sara gently patted the cat’s head.
“I’m glad you took my lunch box,” she whispered playfully.
Shadow gave a soft meow, and the children laughed again.
Sometimes, unexpected problems can lead to wonderful friendships and important lessons.
