Један дечак није имао пара,
па је стао да са дрветом разговара:
-Дрво моје, дрво мило,
како би ми добро било
када би ми мало пара дао,
од радости не бих стао!
Дрво њему рече:
-Имам идеје боље-продај јабуке моје.
Оне су рајско воће,
имаћеш пара колико хоћеш.
А дечак му вели:
-Важи, хоћу, може,
о, хвала ти, Боже!
Како је дечак рстао,
све је размаженији био,
па је од дрвета следеће тражио:
О, дрво моје, мени је хладно у ове зимске дане,
да ли би ми дао своје гране?
И не гране само,
требало би ми и твоје стабло.
Дрво га саслуша,
па му каже:
-Знш да ја немам мане,
узми моје гране и стабло,
дајем ти их радо!
Сада је тај дечак старац.
Дрво му је све дало,
од њега је само пањ остао.
Поред пања седи самац.
Дечак у старости никог нема,
за лоше понашање-то је цена!
