14 foot section of 2x6 floor joists notched for electrical incoming supply cable 1.25 inch
2x6 section braced with 2x2 1/4 angle iron also notched on side allowing cable to pass through
next 2x6 had second piece of 1/4 inch notched angle iron doubled under notch in 2x6.
The length of industrial grade angle iron is approximately 40 inches notch centered underneath
1/2 compression fit bolts and nuts securing angle iron to beam.
Finally 4 inch wide 1/8 steel straps u channel angle iron on each side of 2x6 notch
three inches in height in center of 2x6 joist also drilled and bolted
The u channel straps are secured by 2 1/2 bolts for each u channel are also compression fit.
Purpose of metal additions is to insure 2x6 has at least the same load bearing
capacity as the original 2x6 14 foot section floor joist section without notch.
My personal observation/opinion is these additions exceed original load bearing capacity
and are much stronger and more durable than what was originally in place.
Local building inspector requests structural engineer analysis of repair.
