"A surprisingly hot start to fall this year, don't you think?" Jack asked me.
The conversation had gone limp. I needed Grace, but she was 3000 miles away from me at the moment, enjoying her beach pictures and YouTube life. I hate Californians. My box lacrosse tournament was nothing but wins so far, and we had resorted to talking about the weather on Day 2. Day 2!
"I guess so..." I sighed, and dazed off, dreaming of Stonybrook while effortlessly drifting my eyes into the goal.
"Babe? What's the matter?"
He was a helicopter boyfriend. Sometimes, the feeling was mutual. All I wanted to do was hug and squeeze him and ask as many questions I could fit into one breath as possible. And others, the many other times, I felt over powered by his "love"(emotional void). Now, do not get me wrong. Jack was all I ever wanted, the MONTH we started dating. Bright Blue Eyes, beautiful evenly toned and tanned skin, scruffy brown hair, and not to mention, a football build.
"Thinking about my spot," I finally answered his question.
"Oh, alright," he leaned in for my face and I put my hand over my mouth.
"Jack! Scouts!" I snarked at him.
He made a quick turn and went for my cheek. At least one thing was admirable.
"I'm going to get some cheese fries. Want some?"
"Yeah, just, without the cheese, or fries."
"So, water?"
I nod my head at him, and he cheerfully skips down the bleacher steps. As soon as Jack goes out of sight another brown-haired beauty catches my eye. It's, it's a girl?? Grace! It was Grace! I ran down the bleachers as fast as I could and her open arms hit me like a lax ball. Damn did those things sting, just like my eyes at the moment.
"GRACE!!!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
I could've sworn some of the white parents were confused AND staring at us right then.
