The speaker in this poet is largely absent so the readers are more focused on the drunken man that gets on the bus and the abstract details of things like weather and movements.The speaker does not reveal his thoughts in the poem.
FORM AND STRUCTURE
The poem is largely a one sided conversation with a drunk man in Glasgow. The poets voice at the beginning and end of the poem is merely to describe the settings and the end of the poem by observing the man getting off the bus.The language employed is the specific dialect and vernacular of a working class Glaswegian. Morgan felt strongly that you didn't have to be educated to write poetry and that it could be found in all voices.To reflect the conversational nature of the content, Morgan writes in free verse using questions and dashes throughout to punctuate and create pauses in the dialogue as well as to imitate the lurching movement of the bus. The poet’s own responses are deliberately absent so as to concentrate more fully on the character and personality of the speaker.
