Dalam bahasa Latin, kata "Lucifer" yang berarti `Pembawa Cahaya` (dari lux, lucis, `cahaya`, dan ferre, `membawa`), adalah sebuah nama untuk `Bintang Fajar` (planet Venus ketika muncul pada dini hari).
Versi Vulgata Alkitab dalam bahasa Lain menggunakan kata ini dua kali untuk merujuk kepada Bintang Fajar:
1.) Dalam 2 Petrus 1:19 untuk menerjemahkan kata bahasa Yunani "Φωσφόρος" (Fosforos). Yang mempunyai arti harafiah yang persis sama dengan `Pembawa Cahaya` yang dimiliki Lucifer dalam bahasa Latin.
2.) Dalam Yesaya 14:12 untuk menerjemahkan "הילל" (Hêlēl), yang juga berarti `Bintang Fajar`.
Sementara versi-versi bahasa Inggris lainnya menerjemahkannya dengan `Bintang Fajar` atau `Bintang Siang`.
Banyak yang mengatakan bahwa begitu ia diusir dari Surga, namanya diubah menjadi "Satan".
Pada saat ia masih di Surga, ia memegang dosa kebanggaan (pride) dari 7 dosa mematikan (7 deadly sins), begitu ia diusir dan mengganti namanya menjadi Satan, ia sangat marah dan memegang dosa lainnya yaitu kemarahan (wrath).
Lucifer adalah dewa perang, dia telah memenangkan perang selama 100 kali pertempuran, dia sangat dihormati karena dia lahir dari inti cahaya matahari. Lucifer juga iblis yang rupawan dan ahli musik, termasuk dansa.
