New technology such as textile mills and cotton gin were two major technology's back then.
at first products such as clothing were made at home. then engineerings came along and made the textile mills these started making clothes faster then ever. clothes would be produced every day. Reading #1 "The COTTAGE SYSTEM worked like this; people made products in their homes, materials to make those goods were provided by someone else who then took the finished goods to sell at the market." Reading #1 "Production shifted from handmade and homemade to factory made in urban places. Factories allowed goods to be made at a dramatically increased pace (faster) as production became very efficient" when the cotton gin was created slavery increased and there was a higher demand for cotton. reading #1 "also increased slavery, as Southern plantation owners imported large numbers of African slaves to plant, cultivate, and pick cotton." reading #1 "In particular, the economic value of cotton boomed with Eli Whitney's improvement of the cotton gin in 1793, which made it possible to process cotton more efficiently than ever before."
