Batu bertuah adalah sebuah batu ajaib ciptaan Nicolas Flames. Nicollas Flames adalah satu alkemis yang terkenal dan juga tercatat pada sejarah. Batu bertuah dapat mengubah segala besi/subtansi menjadi emas murni. Batu ini juga, menghasilkan cairan kehidupan atau Elixir Of Life yaitu sebuah ramuan yang dapat membuat peminumnya abadi. Awalnya Nicolas Flames membuat batu ini untuk memperpanjang umur dirinya dan istrinya. Bahkan dia dan istrinya sudah hidup selama enam ratus tahun karna batu bertuah.
Keberadaan batu bertuah diketahui oleh Lord Voldemort. Entah bagaimana caranya Voldemort mengetahui tentang batu ini. Voldemort berniat mencurinya untuk mengembalikannya ke bentuk fisik dan mengembalikan masa kejayaannya.
Awalnya batu ini disimpan di Gringgots 713. Namun, Albus Dumbledore mencurigai jika akan dicuri maka ia menyuruh Hagrid untuk mengambilnya. Dan benar, esoknya terjadi perampokan di Gringgots. Batu bertuah kemudian di letakkan di lantai tiga Hogwarts dengan penjagaan yang sangat ketat.
Dengan bantuan Profesor Quirinus Quirrell, hampir berhasil mencuri. Namun, rencananya digagalkan oleh upaya Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, dan Ron Weasley.
